Why Every Child Deserves Access to Quality Education in Nigeria

During one of our school outreach programs in Ilesa, Osun State, Nigeria, we met children who were at risk of dropping out of school.

Many of these children were no longer attending classes because their families could not afford school fees. Others lacked basic learning materials such as exercise books, school bags, writing materials, and school sandals.

What stood out most was not a lack of interest in education but the painful reality that poverty was standing in the way of their learning.

We supported some of these children by paying their school fees. The joy on their faces reminded us how powerful access to education can be. For them, it meant hope, dignity, and a second chance to continue their learning journey.

The Reality of School Dropout in Underserved Communities

In many underserved communities in Nigeria, school dropout is still a major challenge. Children are forced to stay at home not because they do not want to learn, but because their families cannot afford the cost of education.

Even small barriers such as school fees, books, uniforms, or sandals can prevent a child from attending school consistently.

Why Quality Education Matters

Quality education is more than just attending school. It is about creating an environment where children can learn safely, confidently, and consistently.

Our Work at The Safe Child Foundation

The Safe Child Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization working to improve access to quality education and child protection for vulnerable children in underserved communities in Nigeria.

We support children by:

• Providing school fees assistance
• Distributing learning materials such as books, school bags, sandals, and writing materials
• Delivering body safety education to help children stay safe and speak up when needed

We believe that education and protection must go hand in hand.

Back-to-School Support Program in Ilesa

This August, we are implementing our Back-to-School Support Program in Ilesa, Osun State.

Through this program, we will support 200 vulnerable children with school fees and essential learning materials, helping them return to school with confidence, dignity, and hope.

We will also provide body safety education to help children understand how to protect themselves and seek help when needed.
